Did You Know?

Located within the Old Y Centre for Community Organizations is the Calgary Alternative Transportation Co-operative (CATCO), an organization that focuses on promoting and developing affordable and environmentally sustainable transportation. Among its offerings is the Calgary Carshare program, an initiative where members are given 24-hour access to a fleet of strategically placed vehicles, including one directly in the Beltline. Members use one of the cars when they need it, and simply pay for what they use.  In addition to saving people from the expenses and challenges of owning a vehicle, car sharing provides significant environmental benefits. Because participants share rather than own a vehicle, they are encouraged to find alternative modes of transportation, helping reduce their vehicle-reliance, which in turn helps reduce emissions. For more information, or to join Calgary Carshare, visit calgarycarshare.ca or call 403.264.2422.
