| Bungalow School and Half K Intrinsically Linked |

Regarded as a talented conceptual artist, Canadian Micah Lexiar is leaving his mark both nationally and internationally. His work, which includes sculptures, photography, drawing, printmaking and installation work, can be found in various public and private collections around the globe.

Lexiar's most recent contribution to the Calgary skyline will be a 500-meter-long metal line drawing, hence the name Half K, which will swirl around and over the Bungalow School Building on the 12th Avenue arriVa site. His intention was to create a sculpture that could be 'many things to many people', something that would stand out from the rest of the elements in the area. The thin line drawing sculpture will be a focal point both from the ground and from above, creating a transparent shape that will contrast the tall rectangular skyscrapers. For more info on the Half K project, please visit www.torode.com. |

| Home Grown? Local Food and the Calgary Stampede |
Much more than rides and chuck wagons, the Calgary Stampede is historically linked to Alberta's agricultural industries. With that in mind, the University of Calgary's Dr. Brian Rusted and Dr. Gwendolyn Blue say eating local involves more than Alberta beef. Rusted and Blue will discuss eating your way through the 2008 Calgary Stampede. What is local, what is not, how would you know and why should you care about eating local? The talk takes place July 8 at 7pm at Vicious Circle (1011 - 1 St. SW). The talk is free, and everyone is welcome. For more info, visit www.comcul.ucalgary.ca. |
