Curtis Block Demolition

Did You Know?

Despite efforts to save and incorporate part of the 100-year-old Curtis Block into a brand new mixed-use development, the building was approved for demolition in early-July. Located along Macleod Trail and 12 Avenue SE, demolition of the building began soon afterwards. Built in 1909, the Curtis Block was originally three different buildings once labelled Curtis, Middle, and Left. The building was a significant example of an Edwardian style commercial strip, and was designated by the Calgary Heritage Authority as a Category “A” on the municipal inventory of potential historic sites. Category “A” sites or buildings are recognized as notable, unique or rare, and are significant enough to be considered for designation as an official historic site.

August to September - UNI-FARM at Stride Gallery's +15 Window Space
Alex Moon Uni-Farm Motivated by a distain towards industrial un-sustainability and consumer irresponsibility, Alex Moon’s ongoing project Uni-Farm attempts to disarm self-serving incoherent corporate rhetoric. Over the course of time and crisis the Uni-Farm came to own all of the means of food production in North America, forcing farmers under their employment. Unsatisfied with its current market position, The Uni-Farm has expanded its sphere of influence far beyond the farming systems developed in Uni-Farm Labs. Based on its Opremium seed-printing system, The Uni-Farm presents Uni-Farm Gardener Pro, a domestic design software package making gardening easier for you and your family. Opening reception Thursday September 17. Visit www.stride.ab.ca for more info.
Note: Stride Gallery will be closed from August 9 to September 5, 2008 for summer holidays. The current exhibition, Donna White's Prevailing Past, will be ending on August 9, and the +15 Window space (in the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts) is always accesible to the public via the +15 walkways.
