Blueprint for the Beltline
The Blueprint for the Beltline was created to formulate
new policies and regulations for residential development
and to provide for the enhancement of streets and lanes
in the Beltline area. The purpose is to promote density,
variety, and quality in the Beltline Communities of Victoria
and Connaught. The study, originally called the West Victoria/Connaught
Special Planning Study, addressed the area between 12th
and 17th Avenues South, and 1st Street SE and 14th Street
SW.
The City of Calgary's Downtown and Inner City Planning Section,
along with the Connaught/West Victoria Community Planning
Committee have authored a set of Development Principles
to guide development of residential areas, as well as streetscapes
and landscapes. The second stage of the Blueprint entails
the consideration of a range of implementation possibilities,
followed by a third phase, in which development of an implementation
plan will commence.
The Blueprint for the Beltline was approved at Calgary Planning
Commission in May, and endorsed by City Council on Monday,
June 16, 2003.
Principles from the Blueprint are currently being considered
in the progression of the East
Victoria Special Study and the Land
Use Bylaw Review.
