Formed in 1997, the Victoria Crossing Business Revitalization
Zone (BRZ) is a collaboration of merchants and businesses working
together to promote and improve the community of Victoria Park.
The area lies just south of Calgary's downtown core, between the
6th Street SE to 2nd Street SW and between 10th and 17th Avenues.
In an effort to encourage redevelopment, the goal of the Victoria
Crossing BRZ is to promote the positive aspects of the area through
beautification, marketing, public relations, and street maintenance.
A volunteer Board of Directors made up of local business owners
works with a full-time Executive Director to operate and manage
the BRZ. Victoria Crossing maintains important partnerships with
the Calgary Police Service, Calgary Exhibition & Stampede, Victoria
Community Association, Calgary Economic Development and various
departments within the City of Calgary.
The Victoria Crossing BRZ is a not-for-profit organization that
receives its funding through a levy applied to business tax assessments
within the district. Established as a BRZ in 1997 by Calgary Bylaw
2M97, the organization is governed by Alberta Regulation 377/94
under the Province of Alberta's Municipal Government Act. Membership
in the Victoria Crossing BRZ is automatic and continues so long
as that business falls within the BRZ's boundaries.
